Pakistan PM changed information minister, created new media team

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has changed his media team amid criticism about the government’s failure on important issues of the country.

This is the second time he has changed his media team after coming to power in 2018. Khan has appointed Senate member Shibli Faraj as the new information minister of the country. Faraj is the son of the famous late Urdu poet Ahmed Faraj.

Dr. Firdaus Ashiq Awan, Special Adviser to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting matters, has also been removed. In his place, former Army spokesman Lt Gen (Retd) Aseem Salim Bajwa has been appointed. Awan was appointed to this post on 18 April 2019 after a cabinet reshuffle.

At the same time, Bajwa was the Director General of the media wing of the Army, Inter Services Public Relations, during the tenure of the then Army Chief Rahil Sharif. He is also the chairman of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority. This change has been made on the basis of the assumption that the government’s media management is not good and its works are not being properly outlined.
