Hydroxy chloroquine is safe, just need precaution: Dr. Balaram Bhargava
New Delhi: The reaction of the Indian Council of Medical Research has come to light by the World Health Organization (WHO) banning the testing of the malaria drug hydroxy chloroquine (HCQ) on corona patients.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) rejected WHO’s claim that the use of HCQ is completely safe. If need be, then take precaution in its consumption.
ICMR Director General Dr. Balaram Bhargava said in response to a question on Tuesday that AIIMS, ICMR has investigated the safe use of HCQ. In which it has been found that it is safe to consume HCQ completely with the instructions given. He said that there are complaints of vomiting from intake only when it has been consumed on an empty stomach.
He said that recently the government has issued advisory regarding use of HCQ. It advises health workers working in non-Covid-19 hospitals, personnel posted in the Containment Zone and health and safety personnel posted in the transition zone. In the advisory issued earlier, it was said that only the health workers and those who come in contact with corona infected patients will consume it on medical advice. However, children and the elderly are prohibited from using this drug.
