Centre aiming to target entire population by December end: Hardeep Singh Puri

The Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre is targeting to vaccinate the entire country for Covid-19 by the end of December 2021, Union Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri has said.

The statement was issued by the minister on 18 August 2021, while addressing media personnel at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi.

So far, the government has successfully vaccinated around 56 crore individuals, and the pace is likely to go up moving forward, he claimed.

The statement comes in the backdrop of the heavy criticism faced by the ruling dispensation for its failure to manage the second wave of the pandemic. The “Mood of the Nation” survey published by India Today recently claims that the Prime Minister’s popularity has taken a major hit due to the government’s failure to maintain Covid-appropriate behaviour ahead of the second wave of the pandemic.

Presently, work is on at full swing for allotting houses to the beneficiaries of the Centre’s “jahan jhuggi, wahan makan” policy, Hardeep Singh Puri added. Of the 7,499-odd houses to be built for the economically weaker section (EWS), around 5,199 flats shall be ready by 2021. Work on the remaining units is likely to be over by 2022.

Under the present land pooling policy, around 17 lakh housing units are to be constructed in all, for which nearly 6,930 hectare land has already been registered with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), he informed.

At present, the Union Minister, accompanied by Meenakshi Lekhi, is touring parts of Delhi as part of the BJP’s Jan Ashirwad Yatra. After the expansion of the Union Cabinet last month, the BJP had announced that all the newly-inducted ministers shall participate in its upcoming outreach program. The “yatra” is expected to cover all seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi. The event is to conclude on 19 August 2021.
