Digital B2B marketplace Flipkart Wholesale planning to triple its fooprint in India to approximately 2,700 cities. Since its launch in September 2020, Flipkart Wholesale has achieved stellar growth by roping in retailers and kirana stores across the country.
So far, the company has experienced an unprecedented surge in suppliers, with the supplier base expected to grow by around 58 per cent by the end of this year. This will, consequently, further boost India’s local business ecosystem along with livelihoods.
Also, the company’s kirana customer base grew 17 per cent in January-June 2021 when compared with the numbers clocked in the corresponding period of last year. This customer base is likely to grow by another 33 per cent in July-December 2021, the company feels.

As of now, Flipkart Wholesale caters to over 1.5 million individuals across India, including kirana stores, hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, and O&I i.e. offices and institutions.
Besides this, it has more than 70 fulfilment and sortation centres, with the total area equalling 10 million sq ft. Fulfilment centers are logistics warehouses set up for receiving and processing the orders received.
According to reports, kirana stores shall continue to be Flipkart Wholesale’s most important customer segment moving forward, with the latter offered access to better product assortments at great prices. The company is looking to keep this rebranding exercise seamless for kirana store owners who will continue to enjoy the conveniences offered by the company.

Recently, Amazon India, Flipkart’s rival company had announced its plans to expand its fulfillment network in the country, by increasing its overall storage capacity by nearly 40 per cent. This expansion is likely to bring more than 43 million cubic feet of storage space under the e-retail giant across 15 states. Reportedly, Amazon India is targeting a fulfillment network spread across more than 10 million square feet.
