Lucknow: Dengue is spreading in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Now that 41 new cases were reported on Friday, the number of cases has shot up to 687, health officers said. The condition of four new patients admitted to Lokbandhu hospital was stated to be serious. According to chief medical superintendent of the hospital Dr Ajay Sankar Tripathi, although the platelet count of four patients is low, there is no need for transfusion right now.

Dr Tripathi said that the four patients were under observation and others are recovering in their homes. The highest number of patients (ten) were reported from the Chander Nagar area in the city. Five cases were reported from Sarojini Nagar and four each from Indira Nagar, NK Road and Turiyaganj areas.

Rest of the cases were reported from Aishbagh and Mohanlalganj.

According to reports, the medical staff together with the workers of the municipal corporation have sprinkled anti-larvae in those areas from where cases were reported. Meanwhile, larvae of vector mosquitoes were found at 28 places, sources said.

According to divisional commissioner Roshan Jackob, chief medical officers of the Lucknow division have been directed to carry out anti-larvae sprinkling regularly to check the number of dengue cases. Jackob further said that the doctors were told to remain in the field and conduct door-to-door surveys to make people aware about the disease. The cases of dengue are rising because of sudden rain in late autumn, which caused floods in many areas, health officials said.
