New Delhi: Rescue operation is being carried out in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand after the destruction of the glacier. While issuing the statement, Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar said that 26 bodies have been recovered till 8 pm on February 8. 171 people are still missing, out of which about 35 are in the tunnel, where rescue operations are still on.
According to Chamoli police, relief and rescue operations are on for those stranded in the tunnel. Efforts are being made to open the way by reaching inside the tunnel with the help of JCB. So far a total of 15 persons have been rescued and 18 bodies have been recovered from different places. ITBP spokesman Vivek Kumar Pandey said that we have expedited the search operation for the second tunnel, there are about 30 people trapped Is reported to be 300 ITBP personnel are busy clearing the tunnel so that people can be evacuated. According to the local administration, 203 people are missing in this disaster.
At a distance of 13-14 kilometers from Rishikesh is Tapovan Dam, where water has collected. Work was going on in the Tapovan Dam tunnel in which 20-25 people are stranded.
