New Delhi: Twitter India chief Manish Maheshwari, who is facing ‘action’ by the police in the beating of an elderly Muslim from Ghaziabad, has said that he is ready to appear before the UP Police within 24 hours if he is not arrested. . Twitter India chief Maheshwari said this before the Karnataka High Court.

Maheshwari is a resident of Bangalore. In the case related to the attack on a Muslim elder in Ghaziabad, the UP Police has issued summons to him for questioning. Maheshwari had challenged the summons in the Karnataka High Court last month. He has been provided temporary protection from arrest in the case. UP Police said in the High Court on Tuesday, “We do not want to arrest Manish Maheshwari, we only want his help in the investigation.”

In the hearing held last month, it was said in the High Court on behalf of Manish Maheshwari, I (Twitter) am just a social media platform. Video uploaded to my platform. A case was registered against me by the UP Police by taking suo motu cognizance. First I was asked to appear under 160 crpc (as a witness), then after two days it was changed and notice was sent to me under 41A (accused).

Maheshwari said, ‘I live in Bangalore, it is not possible for me to go to Ghaziabad. I told UP Police that I can appear through video conference but UP Police says that I am personally present. I am not a company director, nor do I take everyday decisions. I am the sales and marketing head of the company. If the court says, I will appear in person too but I should not be arrested. I am afraid that UP Police may arrest me as they made me accused from witness in two days.
