New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday set a deadline for Centre, State to facilitate returning of migrant workers to their native places within 15 days. The apex court has also directed Centre to provide additional trains for transportation of migrant workers within 24 hours of states making a demand. The court further said that all cases registered for breaking the lockdown under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 should also be withdrawn.
The Supreme Court has said that if labor trains are needed, the railways should provide trains within 24 hours. Apart from this, Railways should provide all schemes to the migrant workers and publicize them. Along with this, the Central and State Government should make a list of migrant laborers and provide them employment according to their skills.
Earlier on June 5, the Supreme Court on Friday allowed the human rights body NHRC to intervene in the matter related to the troubles of migrant workers. A division bench of Justice Ashok Bhushan, Justice SK Kaul and Justice MR Shah reserved its order on the plea taken by it that it wants to give 15 days time to the central and state governments to send the migrants.
