On Tuesday, the state’s chief minister attended a public assembly in Kaila Devi, Sambhal district, where he inaugurated and laid the foundations for projects worth Rs 275 crore. A day later, Yadav and SP Yuvjan Sabha activists performed a ‘shuddhikaran’ (purification) of the chief minister’s public meeting site and helipad by sprinkling Ganga River water.
Yadav told the media that he carried out the cleansing campaign during the activity because Adityanath had “insulted” Maa Kaila Devi by not visiting the temple when he was in town. A Sambhal resident filed a complaint with the Bahjoi police station, saying that Yadav’s actions had angered Adityanth’s supporters, who are also religious leaders.

Seers and priests performed “purifying rituals” to prepare the sprawling bungalow for Yogi Adityanath, according to Akhilesh Yadav, the president of the Samajwadi Party and a former chief minister, when he vacated the chief minister’s official residence following his defeat in the 2017 assembly elections. Yadav said that whenever he regained power in 2022, he would have the fire department spray it with ‘Gangajal.’
