Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Monday ordered the state government to keep 2015 as the base year for finalizing the reservation in the three-tier panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh.
The court said that panchayat elections should be held by May 25 in the state. State government advocate general Raghavendra Singh informed the court that the state government is ready to follow 2015 as the base year. On Monday, a bench of Justice Rituraj Awasthi and Justice Manish Mathur passed the order while hearing a PIL filed by Ajay Kumar.
The Lucknow bench, in its order on 11 February, had stayed the final list of reservation for the panchayat elections, in which the state government had considered the year 1995 as the base year and made reservations for the constituencies. Earlier, Allahabad High Court had set May 15 as the deadline to complete the election process.
