An unknown person made hurtful comments against Visva Bharati Vice-chancellor Prof Bidyut Chakraborty in an online event. However, the incident has been criticized by the faculty and students of the central university. The abusive comments were made during a daily music therapy event in which unknown persons had joined the event. Out of the unidentified persons, one person abused the VC on 11 January, said the university spokesperson.

The video clip of the program went viral and the organizers had quickly removed the unknown person from the online event. The university officials said a full-fledged probe into the incident is going on. The online program that has been conducted each evening, is a therapy session during the coronavirus times that has songs, audio plays, recitals, said the spokesperson. This act of abusing the VC has been criticized by the officials who have also condemned the person who has been caught abusing people even at official meetings in the past.

The SFI controlled students’ body also decried the incident and summoned that the person in query is recognized. After this incident, the officials of the university plans to impose stricter rules for its online events so that such incidents are not repeated.
No one has the right to insult others be it in private or in public places. Criticizing others in public places is an offense and that should be exercised to control hatred among people coming out in online events. Thus, it is vital that one has to take the necessary steps and figure out how to organize such online events. Online events are not meant to spread hatred but to inform others about the happenings of specific topics.
