Kathmandu: On Saturday (June 13) in a special session of the Parliament of Nepal, the important constitutional amendment bill related to revising the political map of the country has been passed by the government. The new map covers strategic areas like Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura along the Indian border. India dismissed it on 20 May, calling it an unfair map claim.
Nepal released its revised political and administrative map of the country last month, stating its claim on these strategically important areas. India has been saying that these three areas (Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura) belong to it. After Kathmandu released a new map, India had strongly worded Nepal not to attempt to “artificially exaggerate” regional claims. Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said earlier this month that his government wanted a solution to the Kalapani issue through diplomatic efforts and negotiations based on historical facts and documents.
