Lockdown extended till April 30 in West Bengal too

New Delhi: After Maharashtra, now the lockdown in West Bengal has also been announced to be extended till April 30. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced this after a meeting with the PM. She said that the lockdown in the state would continue till April 30 and all educational institutions would remain closed till June 10. She has also appealed people to carry out religious traditions at home.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the decision was taken after a video conference between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chief Ministers. She said, “The Prime Minister said that the lockdown will be extended till 30 April. We all agree. Thus, I have decided to extend the lockdown to 30 April.”

Earlier, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has also announced to extend the lockdown by April 30. He had asked PM Modi to increase it during video conferencing. The highest number of infections are coming from Maharashtra. The number of infected patients in Maharashtra has crossed 1,800. So far, 110 people have died in the state.

During the video conferencing, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh also advocated extending the lockdown period. Kejriwal sought to continue the lockdown further at the national level. The Prime Minister today interacted with Chief Ministers of other states for the third consecutive time through video conferencing.
