Kulbhushan Jadhav granted second consular access

New Delhi: Kulbhushan Jadhav, an Indian citizen imprisoned in a Pakistani jail on charges of espionage, has been given consular access for the second time by Pakistan. The condition states that Jadhav and the officer will have to speak in English during the meeting with the Indian officer and during this time Pakistani officials will also be present there.

This comes after India sought unrestricted consular access to Jadhav before July 20 – the deadline to file a review petition. Notably, the first consular access was granted in September 2019.

According to reports, two officials from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad will be allowed to meet Jadhav for two hours on Thursday.

Also, the High Commission officials have been allotted the time of 4:00 pm (4:30 pm IST) for consular access to him.

Pakistan had earlier claimed that Jadhav refused to file a review petition after being sentenced to death by the military court. However, following India’s callous attitude, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry had given permission to appeal against Jadhav’s death sentence.
