New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while interacting with top political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir at his Delhi residence on Thursday, said that holding the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir is the priority of the government. A total of 14 leaders, including four former Chief Ministers of the state, participated in this conversation. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Jitendra Singh and NSA Ajit Doval also attended the meeting.
Significantly, in the year 2019, the special status of Jammu and Kashmir has been abolished. According to sources, the main focus of the meeting was to strengthen the democratic process. The PM said that we are fully committed to the democratic process in Jammu and Kashmir. He stressed that like the successful conduct of the DDC elections, holding the assembly elections is a priority. It was discussed that elections could be held immediately after delimitation and overall the majority of the participants expressed their willingness to do so.
The PM emphasized the need to strengthen democracy at the grassroots and work closely with the people of Jammu and Kashmir to ensure their upliftment. The PM said that he wants to remove the distance of Delhi as well as the distance of heart. The Prime Minister expressed happiness over the commitment to the Constitution and democracy supported by all the participants.
PM Modi said that even a death in Jammu and Kashmir is painful and it is our collective duty to protect our young generation. He stressed that we need to give opportunities to our youth of Jammu and Kashmir and they will give a lot to our country. The development achieved by J&K was discussed in detail along with the implementation of several pro-people initiatives.
The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the pace of development in Jammu and Kashmir and said it was creating new hope and aspirations among the people. He said that when people experience corruption free governance, it instills confidence in the people and people give their support to the administration and this is visible in Jammu and Kashmir today.
The PM said that there will be political differences but everyone should work in the national interest so that the people of Jammu and Kashmir benefit. The PM stressed that there is a need to ensure an environment of safety and security for all sections of the society in Jammu and Kashmir. The PM said that he wants to remove the distance of Delhi as well as the distance of heart.
