Kathmandu: Nepal has moved one step further on its political map. On the border dispute with India, the Government of Nepal introduced the Constitution Amendment Bill in Parliament today. Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shiva Maya Tumbanhangfe on Sunday introduced the Constitution Amendment (Second Amendment) Bill.
The proposal seeking approval of the amendment bill of Tumbahangafe received unanimous support. The government of Nepal registered the bill in Parliament on 22 May, seeking to amend Schedule 3 of the Constitution to update Nepal’s political map.
The Nepal government on 20 May released a new political map of Nepal depicting Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura within its borders.
What does india say
India has expressed resentment with this move of Nepal. India says it will not accept the “exaggerated” claim on the area and asks the neighboring country to abstain from such “unfair map claims”.
The new map will be used in all official documents as soon as the amended bill in Nepal is approved by Parliament. Parliament will discuss it before approving the bill. After getting approval from both the houses of parliament, the president will give final approval to the bill.
