100 former bureaucrats raised questions on transparency of PM-Cares fund

New Delhi: Hundred former bureaucrats have written an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday and raised questions about transparency in the PM-Cares Fund. They said that for the possibility and adherence to the standards of public accountability, financial statements of the receipts and expenses of PM-Cares Fund should be made available to avoid any doubt.

The letter said that we are eagerly following the discussions on civil assistance and emergency relief, or PM Cares (a fund created to help people suffering from the Corona epidemic). It is important to get an answer for the purpose for which it was made and the way in which it is being managed.

They has said, “It is necessary that the position and stature of the Prime Minister be retained, so that the Prime Minister can ensure complete transparency in all the dealings with which he is associated.” The letter was written by former IAS officers Anita Agnihotri, SP Ambrose, Sharad Behar, Sajjad Hasan, Harsh Mander, P Joy Omran, Aruna Roy, former diplomats Madhu Bhaduri, KP Fabian, Deb Mukherjee, Sujata Singh and former IPS officers A.K. S. Dulat, P.G. J. Nampoothiri and Julio Ribeiro were also signed.

Last year, the Central Government created the Prime Minister’s Civil Assistance and Relief Fund (PM-Cares Fund) last year to help the people affected by the corona epidemic and any kind of emergency. For which there was a demand that the details of the transactions related to this fund should be made available for the information of the people. In this fund, many industrialists to the general public have donated small to large amounts. In just five days, the fund had received Rs 3076 crore. The funds were later used to purchase ventilators and other health infrastructure related items.
