
New Delhi: Union Education Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ took a step forward towards fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of providing basic literacy and numeracy up to Class III to every child by 2026-27, here on Monday. But launched the National Fundamental Literacy and Number Knowledge Mission named ‘Nipun Bharat’ through virtual medium.
Dr. Nishank said that the ‘Nipun Bharat’ mission will focus on children in the age group of three to nine years from pre-school to class III and additional educational material will be provided to those children of class four and five.
Explaining the importance of literacy and numeracy on the occasion, the Union Minister said, “I believe that a good foundation of literacy and numeracy skills has a positive impact on a child’s learning in senior classes and also develops a child’s interest in education. To start this mission to all the children of the country to develop its basic understanding, our illustrious Prime Minister had shared his vision with everyone on the occasion of Shikshak Parv held in September last year.

Dr. Nishank further added, “Literacy and numeracy have a direct impact on their future life outcomes like income of adults and better health for the next generation. Keeping this important aspect of basic literacy in mind, Nipun Bharat is being launched under Samagra Shiksha with a sanctioned budgetary allocation of Rs.2130.66 crore for the year 2021-22.
