Employees are the biggest assets of an organization to perform well and also attain its goals. However, if you have a hard-working employee who always comes to you saying that he or she is suffering from health issues that stops them from giving best at work, then you need to be their mentor. Stepping into their life as a Guide or Mentor will be a win-win situation because one is that you will help that employee to improve his life and second if the employee’s health improves, he will stay back in the same company and work for many years.
You are a true leader every time you encourage your employees
Here are some ways how you can encourage your employees to overcome their ill health:
1) Speak to your employee in person:
Whether it is a remote working position or your employee is working from the office, ask for a time to speak to them in person. You can speak to them either on the phone or in Google Duo or in person, and tell them that the meeting is to discuss personal issues and has nothing to do with professional life. Try to understand what ill health is your employee suffering with. Is it something minor or is it something major that your employee cannot get away with? If your employee is not open about her or his ill health, then you can get them to consult with a good doctor in your network. Probably that gesture will itself give them the motivation to open up and share their health woes.
2) Get in touch with health insurance companies:
Irrespective of the fact that your employees have got themselves medically insured or not, as an employer, it is your responsibility as well to take care of their health and unforeseen medical expenses that may arise in the future. Thus, you can get in touch with a couple of health insurance companies and introduce the packages to not just this employee suffering from ill health but to others as well who hardly take any leaves due to health or personal reasons. Probably they will always remember your concern for them by helping them take the right mediclaim.
3) Explore different work options:
If your employee keeps complaining to you about his ill health and takes sick leave quite often thus hampering your work processes, you can ask him or her to try out different work options like working from home or half day working or compensate for the loss of work by working on weekends or holidays. This will help the employee to know the seriousness of their loss of work and how they can still get paid if they take sick leave and work from home or elsewhere.
4) All work and no play makes your employees dull:
This is a known fact that if you are stressing your employees with a lot of work, then they are going to fall sick sooner or later. Some may even quit their jobs because of the toxic work culture. So, introduce some fun games and off-time from work so that they feel secure at the same time, good to not work while being at the workplace.
