50 doctors resign in Gwalior amid Corona virus crisis

New Delhi: Amidst the corona virus crisis in Madhya Pradesh, 50 resident junior doctors have resigned in Gwalior in the state already facing shortage of doctors. On Thursday (April 9) at Gajraraja Medical College in Gwalior, doctors submitted their resignations. These were all medical officers, they were placed on contract for three months to fight the corona virus on April 1 itself.

Dean of Gajararaja Medical College SN Iyengar said that on completion of the internship of 92 doctors was placed on the contract for three months on the orders of the government. Meanwhile, a new order came from the state medical education department, which says that doctors who are willing can offer services. After this order, 50 doctors have resigned immediately. The government has implemented ESMA on Wednesday. If a doctor resigns now, it will not be accepted.

He said that after completion of MBBS course and internship, one year service in a government hospital as a medical officer is mandatory. These doctors were given a temporary contract appointment of three months. Now, 32 of these doctors are still working. Currently patients suffering from corona are being treated at Jairogya Hospital and most of the doctors are devoted to corona cases.
