Lucknow: In a major respite for the power consumers in Uttar Pradesh, the UP state electricity regulatory commission(UPSERC) has rejected the demand of the UP Power Corporation Limited(UPPCL) to hike the power tariff in the state this fiscal.
The Commission in its order on Wednesday, said that there would be no hike in power tariff and rejected he proposal of different power distribution companies for marginal hike in tariff.
Claiming it a win of the consumers, UP state Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad has claimed the decision as a win for the consumers.
Parishad’s president Awadhesh Kumar Verma said here in a statement that their petition demanding return of Rs 13,337 crore along with its interest to the consumers was the main reason for such decision.
Earlier political parties, particularly Congress and Samajwadi Party had criticized the Yogi Adityanath government to trying to hike the power tariff. Both Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and SP president Akhilesh Yadav, had termed the BJP government as anti-people for proposing to hike the power tariff.
But government at that time, had claimed that they had just proposed rationalization of the tariff with reducing the monthly consumption of consumers using more power than the others.
UPSERC has also reduced he RCDC fee on Smart meter to be paid by the consumers to just Rs 50 as it was Rs 600 earlier. The smart meter RCDC fee would be Rs 50 upto 4 KVA and Rs 100 from 5 KVA and above.
