Mumbai: In a major step, the Shiv Sena-led government in Maharashtra closed its account with Axis Bank on Wednesday. The government closed the account at Axis and shifted it to SBI.

The state government’s National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Projects bank account was with Axis Bank and now it has been transferred to SBI. The Maharashtra government’s decision is seen as an attack on BJP leader and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Let’s say that Devendra Fadnavis’s wife works in a senior position at Axis Bank. Due to this, Fadnavis had to face allegations of favoring a private bank in the past.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar had said on Friday that the Maharashtra government would keep its funds only in public sector banks. Uddhav Thackeray has instructed the Chief Secretary that government money should only be deposited in nationalized banks. Pawar had said, “The Chief Minister has directed the Chief Secretary and other secretaries to deposit government funds only in nationalized banks, especially in centrally protected banks.” Came in the wake of a dispute arising out of transfer of Axis Bank.
