Washington: US President Donald Trump has directed his government to reform the H-1B visa system and move towards merit-based immigration. This move of the US has dealt a big blow to the IT professionals of the world including India. This suspension will be valid till the end of the year.
White House officials said that Trump issued an order to temporarily suspend other work visas, including H-1B visas, by the end of this year.
The White House then said in a statement, “America is moving towards a merit-based immigration system.” The Trump government will reform the immigration system to prioritize more-skilled workers and protect American citizens’ jobs.
The White House said that under these reforms, the 1-1B visa program would give priority to those being offered significantly higher salaries. In addition, the Trump government will also remove all imperfections. Taking advantage of this, companies place cheap foreign workers in place of American workers.
