Veteran Bollywood actress Waheeda Rehman will be honored with the well-known and reputed Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award for her amazing work in the Indian cinema. The announcement was made by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur on Tuesday.

Thakur wrote a long note on X, which was formerly called as Twitter. Thakur announced that he is happy to announce about the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award which will be conferred upon actress Waheeda Rehman this year for her great contribution to the Indian cinema.

He further added, “Waheeda ji has been critically acclaimed for her roles in Hindi films, prominent among them, Pyaasa, Kaagaz ke Phool, Chaudhavi Ka Chand, Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam, Guide, Khamoshi and several others. In her career spanning over 5 decades, she has essayed her roles with extreme finesse, leading to a National Film Award for her role as a clanswoman in the film Reshma and Shera. A Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardee, Waheeda ji has exemplified dedication, commitment and the strength of a Bharatiya Nari who can achieve the highest level of professional excellence with her hardwork.”
Quoting about the recent passing of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament and giving Waheed Rehman a Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement award at the same time is an apt tribute to one of the famous women of Indian Cinema.
Thakur then mentioned how the historic Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam had been passed by Parliament at the time when Waheeda ji was awarded such a great honor. She has committed her life after films to philanthropy and the greater good of society, said Thakur.
Thakur also congratulated the veteran actress and humbly paid regards to her rich body of work that is an intrinsic part of the Indian film industry.
Waheeda Rehman is regarded for her great performances in movies like ‘Guide’, ‘Pyaasa’, ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’, ‘Chaudhvin Ka Chand’, and ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam’.
85-year-old actress Waheeda Rehman has received congratulatory messages from film veteran Asha Parekh as well who in 2021 received the same award for her contribution to the film industry. Sharing her happiness and joy over Rehman’s huge win, Asha Parekh told a media portal how Rehman is a lovely actress and a lovely human being. Talking greatly of her friend, the actress also added how Rehman is still beautiful and her gorgeousness reflects on her face because of the humanitarian work that is engaged in.
Rehman made a comeback to the film industry with movies like Delhi 6 and Rang De Basanti. Asha ji commended her even for her comeback movies wherein the actress kept her mark. She has been touted as one of the most accomplished actresses of Hindi cinema.
Talking about her big win, Waheeda Rehman told a media portal that she chose to perform characters that showed women in a progressive light as women have several talents and hence they can do many things. In the past, Waheeda Rehman was also the first recipient of the Centenary Award for the Indian Film Personality of the Year.
