Auto Desk – The Delhi government has put up a temporary ban on the use of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles from Tuesday till this coming Friday. The decision was announced on Monday in view of the worsening air quality.
However, it is not the first time as something similar happened towards the end of 2022.
On Monday, the air quality index (AQI) of Delhi fell below 400 which is an alarming situation. As a result, unfavorable meteorological conditions occurred.
For unaware, AQI between 201 and 300 is ‘poor’, 301 and 400 very poor’, and 401 and 500 are ‘severe’.
Delhi has been suffering from severe cold day conditions, heavy fog, drop in temperatures, cold waves, and so on. That is why The transport department of Delhi implies the ban on BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles.
Moreover, the ban exempted vehicles from falling under emergency, police, and government services. Also, who will be found breaking this temporary ban will be prosecuted under section 194(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and pay a fine of Rs 20,000.
