Rumi Dwaraza in Lucknow Develops cracks, need repair

Date:

Lucknow: The Rumi Dwaraza, the pride of Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow, has developed some cracks, official sources said on Friday. Although the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has come up with a plan for its repair, the district administration has yet to give a nod for closing the area to stop flow of traffic. The Rumi Dwaraza, constructed during the rule of Asaf-ud-Daula in 1784, needs immediate renovation, sources said.

The pride of Lucknow is one of the most vulnerable buildings in the city, said IIT-Kanpur. Therefore, it needs an immediate facelift. Else, it may crumble, sources in ASI said. Most of the cracks are nearly ten years old. There was a plan to start the renovation work from this month, but the administration has yet to give its nod for traffic diversions. According to an official of the district administration, the traffic diversions will be done once the ASI sends the proposal to us.
