Kolkata: Ten people travelling in a pick-up van in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal were electrocuted and six injured, the police said. The accident occurred because of a copper wire that caused short-circuit in a generator kept in the rear portion of the vehicle. The van carrying 36 people was going to Alpesh temple near Maynaguri in Jalpaiguri district of the state.

According to some survivors, the tragedy struck them when they were crossing Dharala Bridge on the Jamaladaha-Changrabandha state highways. Once the van reached the Jalpaiguri district hospital, its driver went missing. Meanwhile, the district administration ordered a probe into the accident.
