New Delhi: In recent times, the issue of ‘conflict of interest’ has been overshadowed with many Indian cricketers. India’s former middle-order stalwarts – Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman – have all faced conflict of interest over the years.
Conflict of interest usually refers to a situation where a person’s personal interests collide with his or her professional interests, and therefore questions the person’s loyalty to his or her duties. The current player who has come under the grip of ‘conflict of interest’ issue is current Indian captain Virat Kohli.
A complaint has been sent to BCCI Ethics Officer Justice DK Jain alleging that Kohli has violated the Board of Interest Norms, as reported by Inside Sport. Complaints against Kohli have been made by the same Sanjeev Gupta, who filed a conflict of interest case against Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid.
According to the complaint, Kohli has two positions, one as the player and captain of the Indian team and the other as the director of the sports marketing company, the company contracts with fellow Indian cricketers. The complainant further alleged and stated that this is a gross violation of Rule 38 (4) of BCCI which has been approved by the Supreme Court of India.
Complainant Sanjeev Gupta has also stated that Kohli is a director in Virat Kohli Sports LLP and Cornerstone Ventures Partners LLP and, his partner director in both these companies is also a director of Cornerstone Sport and Entertainment Pvt Ltd.
