Italy clinched the European Championships title for the second time after beating England 3-2 in a penalty shootout on Sunday. In this fiercely contested final, no one could separate the two teams in 120 minutes of play and the match was tied 1-1, after which the decision was made in a penalty shootout, where England lost three chances and Italy won.
Italy became European football champions after a gap of 53 years after defeating hosts England in a penalty shootout in the Euro 2020 final. Italy won its first Euro title in 1968.
With over 60,000 spectators at Wembley, Italy and England had a chance to create history and relive nostalgia. Italy had suffered defeats in the finals in 2000 and 2012, while not being able to qualify for the 2018 World Cup was different. England were playing their first major final in 55 years.
The first half of the final itself was very interesting. Both the teams started scoring goals from the first minute itself. England took advantage of this. The hosts started the match and took the lead on counter attack in the second minute itself. Right wing back Kieran Trippier’s cross was hit with a hard left foot by left wing back Luke Shaw to take England to a 1-0 lead. After this both the teams attacked for a long time.

England were ahead for 20-25 minutes at the start of the final, but shortly after Italy made a comeback which continued till the second half. Italy looked more attacking before the end of the first half, but England’s defense did not allow them to succeed and the first half ended 1–0 in favor of England. In the second half, Italy dominated England and continued to attack England’s goal.
