The number of Covid-19 infections are on a steep rise in South Korea. the health infrastructure is under pressure and the crematoriums are working round the clock.
The crematoriums are now being instructed by the health officials to burn more bodies as casualties due to Covid-19 are very high. The crematoriums have been ordered to increase their capacity from capacity from around 1,000 to 1,400 cremations per day.

There are still a lot of back logs and waiting lines and people are being asked to wait for days before their loved ones can be cremated. Funeral homes have also been asked to arrange for more refrigerators for storing dead bodies.
There has been a massive outbreak of the virus in South Korea lately. The country is facing the pandemic of omicron variant and thousands of its citizens are infected.
The worst affected is the capital city of Seoul as it is a densely populated area and is home to around 52 million people. 384 deaths due to covid were reported today and new infections detected were reported to be 353,980. There has been an increase in hospitalisations due to the infection and the health sector is facing challenges.

The covid- 19 infections have also been on a rise in Hong Kong. The country has crossed the mark of 1 million infections. So far, Hong king has reported more deaths by the pandemic than China. While China has reported 4,636 deaths, Hongkong has reported over 5,600 causalities due to the virus.
As per reports, the health care infrastructure is reaching a breaking point due to extremely high numbers of hospitalisations. The situation is bad as most of the elderly population in Hong Kong continues to be unvaccinated.
The country has been forced to request assistance from mainland China and around 400 healthcare and support staff have been sent over to Hong Kong. So far, the administration has maintained a strict policy towards Covid-19 and people have been trying to get out of the city to avoid being caught up in a lock down like situation.

Hongkong has also decided to relax its international flight rules and from April, international flights from nine countries will be resumed. China is still following the “zero-Covid” strategy and has locked down Shenyang, a city of 9 million residents overnight over an increase in number of infections. The country also reported two deaths over the weekend and these were the first Covid related deaths being reported by China in more than a year.
