Kolkata: Suspended spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nupur Sharma who made some controversial statements against the Prophet seems to be in the soup. After the Supreme Court’s reprimand on Friday, the Kolkata police which have already registered an FIR sent a lookout notice to Sharma on Saturday, sources said. Her comments last month kicked up dust across the country and abroad.
According to official sources in the Kolkata Police, as Sharma did not turn up for interrogation, they were compelled to send a lookout notice.
Kolkata Police are the first to issue a lookout notice against Sharma on this issue. Earlier, Narkeldanga Police Station in Kolkata, issued a summon to Sharma, asking her to be present for questioning at the police station on June 20. After that, the Amherst Street police station, under Kolkata Police’s north and north suburban division, sent a notice to Sharma asking her to be present at the police station on June 25.

Nevertheless, instead of appearing before the police, Sharma sent a communique expressing her inability to do that and sought some more time for it. In the communique, she also raised the issue of security threat in Kolkata. The officials said that various individuals filed 10 FIRs at different police stations against Sharma. The West Bengal Assembly also passed a resolution condemning the comments of Sharma against the Prophet.
No sooner had her comments gone viral on social media than there was tension in various districts like Howrah, Nadia, Murshidabad and other places in the state. Also, communal clashes broke out in different places like Domjur in Howrah district and protesters torched police vehicles and attacked cops, many of whom sustained injuries.
