NewsAll Andhra ministers resign as CM Jagan wants to revamp cabinet

Date:

New Delhi: Entire cabinet except CM Jagan Reddy resigns in Andhra Pradesh in a precursor to a mega revamp for the remaining tenure, ahead of the 2024 assembly elections. About 24 ministers handed their resignations to CM Jagan Reddy, the only cabinet member to stay put in the Andhra government. This exercise is seen as the first step toward the big revamp.

This mass resignation was on the cards; Jagan Reddy had earlier said to the media that he would go change his entire cabinet before the midway of his tenure but due to the Covid pandemic it was postponed. According to the sources, apart from one or two ministers rest will not be retained. Ministers who represent the politically important communities will be retained while all others will be shunted. Since Jagan Reddy doesn’t want to go in state elections with anti-incumbency baggage.

Chances are that the new cabinet may get representation from each of the newly-formed 26 districts of Andhra Pradesh. Everything from caste matrix to religion, region and gender was thoroughly worked out before taking the mass resignation.

Although, the outgoing Andhra cabinet had five Deputy CM from every dominating caste and from scheduled tribes communities along with 3 women ministers which will get repeated in this remaining term also. Resignation of the entire cabinet has taken place the second time in the state’s political history.

Meanwhile, political analysts look at this exercise as a new idea where one can drop the anti-incumbency baggage of the past to get a majority in the upcoming 2024 assembly election which will be coincided with the General Election as well. Everyone in the state saw it coming since CM J Reddy has already hinted about the cabinet revamp before the election. Hope this cabinet fulfills the promises made by the govt to the people of the state by providing better representation to every section of society.
