Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the Union Cabinet will discuss a new draft law aimed at preventing examination paper leaks.
In a video message shared late on Thursday night, the Prime Minister said the proposed law will include fast-track courts and stricter punishment for those involved in paper leak cases.
Government Wants Stronger Action
PM Modi said paper leaks have caused great pain to lakhs of students and their parents.
He said the government is committed to taking stronger steps to stop such incidents in the future.
“This is not a minor issue. It has caused immense pain to lakhs of students and their parents,” the Prime Minister said.
Focus Was to Save Students’ Academic Year
Modi said the government’s first priority after the alleged NEET paper leak was to ensure that students did not lose an academic year.
He said the government used its full administrative machinery to conduct the NEET re-examination for nearly 2.2 million students in a short time.
The results of the re-exam were declared on July 19.
New Bill to Include Fast-Track Courts
The Prime Minister said several people involved in the alleged paper leak have already been arrested and sent to jail.
However, he added that arrests alone are not enough.
He said he directed officials to prepare a new law with provisions for fast-track courts and strict punishment for those found guilty.
According to Modi, officials completed the draft law on Thursday, and it will now be discussed by the Union Cabinet.
Government Aims to Pass Bill Soon
After Cabinet approval, the government plans to introduce the Bill in Parliament during the ongoing Monsoon Session.
PM Modi said the government will make every effort to get the Bill passed by both Houses of Parliament as early as possible.
Opposition Continues Protest
The announcement comes as protests over the alleged NEET paper leak continue across the country.
The Opposition has been demanding a discussion on the issue in Parliament and has also sought the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The government has said it has already taken action against those responsible and is now working on stronger legal measures to prevent paper leaks in the future.
