EducationCBSE Re-Evaluation Begins Today as OSM Controversy Continues

Date:

The re-evaluation process for Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 board exams has started today amid growing concerns over the board’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.

According to CBSE data, more than 4 lakh students have applied to access their answer sheets, resulting in over 11 lakh answer book requests.

So far:

4,04,319 students have applied for answer scripts
11,31,961 answer books have been requested
8,98,214 answer books have already been provided digitally

The large number of requests reflects the concerns raised by students after this year’s results.

CBSE introduced the OSM system for Class 12 exams this year, under which scanned copies of answer sheets were checked digitally instead of evaluating physical answer books.

After the results were declared, many students took to social media alleging issues such as unusually low marks, unchecked answers, missing pages, blurred scans, and technical problems while accessing answer sheets.

As criticism grew, CBSE reduced the fees for post-result services.

Under the revised structure:

Scanned answer sheet: ₹100 per subject
Verification of marks: ₹100 per subject
Re-evaluation: Charged per question

The board has also announced that re-evaluation fees will be refunded if a student’s marks increase after review.

Students who want a review must first obtain a scanned copy of their answer sheet, check it carefully, apply for verification if needed, and then seek re-evaluation for specific questions.

CBSE has clarified that marks may increase, decrease, or remain unchanged after re-evaluation, and the revised score will be considered final.

The controversy surrounding the OSM system has expanded beyond marks, with debates over transparency, technical glitches, answer-sheet access, and the reliability of digital evaluation.

The issue also attracted political attention, with opposition leaders questioning the process, while CBSE has defended the integrity of its evaluation system.

As the re-evaluation window opens, thousands of students are expected to review their answer sheets, hoping to get clarity after weeks of confusion and concerns over the evaluation process.
