NationalDehradun Late-Night Bar Row: Senior Officer’s Presence Triggers Probe

Date:

A late-night police check in Dehradun turned controversial after a senior police officer was allegedly found at a bar that was open beyond permitted hours.

The incident happened on Saturday night at a bar on Rajpur Road, which was reportedly running past the 11 pm closing time set by the police.

Acting on information that the bar was still open around 1 am, a police team led by City SP Pramod Kumar reached the spot to enforce the rules.

According to reports and a video shared by a political leader, the bar was operating till around 12:30 am. It was also claimed that the presence of Rajiv Swarup at the location stopped the police from taking action immediately.

The police team was reportedly unable to shut the bar at that time.

Later, the situation escalated, and Dehradun SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal reached the spot and ensured the bar was closed.

Responding to the allegations, IG Swarup denied attending any late-night party or stopping police action. He said he was just passing through the area with his family and only questioned the heavy police presence.

Taking the matter seriously, Additional Director General V Murugesan has asked for a detailed report within 24 hours from both the IG and the SSP.

Officials are now checking CCTV footage to understand what exactly happened.

The strict rules on closing time were introduced after the death of a retired army officer in a recent late-night shooting incident linked to a nightclub operating beyond allowed hours.
