Uttar PradeshUP cop shifted for highlighting mess food quality, moves HC

Date:

Lucknow: A constable of Uttar Pradesh police, Manoj Kumar, who was transferred from Firozabad to Ghazipur district for highlighting the sub-standard food at the mess has filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court against his transfer.

Hearing his petition, the high court sought a response from the state government and the UP police. Both have been made party in the petition. The court directed the respondents to reply within four weeks.

The constable joined his place of posting in Ghazipur, but alleged that the transfer was done as a punishment for highlighting the quality of food in the staff mess.

The order issued by the office of the director general of police on September 20 did not show any reason for the constable’s shifting.

Manoj, in the meanwhile, appealed to senior officials for cancellation of his transfer order citing the health conditions of his parents, official sources said.

Manoj said Ghazipur is very far from his native place Aligarh, so it would be difficult for him to look after his ailing parents, but the senior officials did not give any response to his application.

The constable was sent to jail after a few video clips, in which he had highlighted the poor quality of food served at the staff mess, went viral on social media.

Immediately after the video went viral on social, the Firozabad police twitted that Kumar had faces disciplinary actions 15 times for various reasons, including indiscipline.
