Prayagraj (UP): The Allahabad High Court has granted a conditional bail to jailed Samajwadi Party (SP) law-maker Nahid Hasan in connection with a case under the UP Gangsters and Prevention of Anti-social Activities Act, official sources said on Thursday.

He won the 2022 assembly elections from Kairana constituency contesting from jail. He was arrested just before the polls after several criminal cases had been registered against him.

Justice Krishan Pahal who granted the bail ordered that Hasan would not intimidate the witnesses and would cooperate with the police for inquiry into the cases connected with him.

Hasan, arrested on January 15, has been in Chitrakoot jail for the past two months.

Eighteen cases were registered against him but he got bail from the lower courts in 17. For another case registered under the Gangsters Act, he moved the high court and got bail from there.

Hasan’s counsel Imran Ulla said the legislator would be released on bail.

Hasan pleaded that he had got bail in all the criminal cases registered against him and other co-accused, besides considering his health conditions, the Supreme court recently granted bail to the legislator.

A case under the Gangsters Act was registered against Hasan, his mother Tabassum Begum and 40 others in February 2021. Initially, Hasan was lodged in Muzaffarnagar jail and then shifted to Muzaffarnagar prison.
