Lucknow: There is a saying “Mushkuraiye kyunki aap Lucknow mein hain” (Smile because you’re in Lucknow). The residents of Lucknow are known for their nazakat (good manners), nafasat (softness) and good sense of humour. They are always cheery, but now, to make them cheerier, the government has decided to set up happiness parks.

A musical happiness park will soon be set up near the Gomti river and the UP Darshan Project, another park, will be established in a vacant plot of land behind Hotel Taj, Gomti Nagar.

According to official sources, the happiness park will come up inside the Buddha Park, opposite the Scientific Convention Centre. Children will be allowed to play Gilli-Danda and Kancha (marbles). Such games have vanished with the advent of computer games.

According to divisional commissioner of Lucknow Roshan Jacob, a proposal for both the parks have been discussed at a meeting with the officials of various departments. Many funny sculptures, most of them made of waste material, will be installed at the park and children can pose for photographs with them, she said.

Similarly, a musical park will be established near the Gomti river where the musical instruments and murals of maestros will be put up and those who are skilled in music can even play those instruments, she further said. UP Darshan Park will be built in an empty plot of land behind Hotel Taj, Gomti Nagar where popular handicrafts from every district of Uttar Pradesh will be on display, Jacob said.
