Jabalpur (MP): Eight people lost their lives and nine sustained severe burns in a fire that erupted in a private hospital in Jabalpur city of Madhya Pradesh on Monday, official sources said. The incident occurred in New Life Multi-Speciality Hospital at Damoh Naka area under Gohalpur police station in Jabalpur city.

On getting information, a team comprising the police, fire brigade personnel and the officials of the district administration rushed to the spot to rescue patients, Jabalpur district collector Ilayaraja T said, adding that electrical short circuit may have caused the fire. Rescue operation was going on when the last reports came in. It was, however, not known whether those who died included patients.
