What is Serenity?

Concept of the DayWhat is Serenity?

Date:

Serenity is the art of being at peace and maintaining calmness. Serenity comes to people who meditate and often try to think about solutions whenever they are put in trouble. Serenity is to achieve a positive state of mind despite facing life’s ups and downs. In order to get serenity, one has to practice some daily habits so that one can achieve inner peace. One needs to practice gratitude or thankfulness often and to people whom one meets on a regular basis. A simple thank you can really create wonders for one and all. Whenever a person’s mind starts wandering in the wrong direction, he needs to bring it back by practicing self-control.

One needs to accept situations and people as they are without trying to change them. One needs to learn to be kind to others and not just be always selfish or miser. One needs to be careful when one thinks and even drink. One needs to get complete rest and enough sleep so that their thoughts are in control.

One needs to read the right kinds of books and watch movies or series that are quite inspirational and doesn’t include any violence or negative acts. When such practices are followed on a regular basis, a person experiences serenity and inner peace. One can also listen to soothing or religious songs to keep their mind under control.

One can also meditate and chant sacred mantras and read religious books to take inspiration from past literature to lead a good and meaningful life. When one takes the right action and follows a servitude in life, he automatically feels good from within and thus, experiences serenity in his life without trying to do and think a lot.

Let us understand serenity through a young woman’s story. A woman was in her 30s when she got married in an arranged set-up. Her husband and in-laws were quite good with her for the first three months of her marriage. Post-that she was asked to do a lot of household chores and also asked to search for a well-paying job to satisfy the wants and needs of her in-laws. Her social life was cut down to nothing and she had no good experiences at home where she would always be mocked or teased for her looks and behavior.

The woman started feeling frustrated with the way her experiences were becoming tough for her to handle. She decided to give her marital life a good break of six months, wherein she practiced some of the above kind acts like doing a donation to religious institutions, writing and chanting Ramakoti, reading inspiring books about her career and life, calming herself down whenever she was taunted or misbehaved by her in-laws. She then started to take the criticism from her in-laws lightly and didn’t react even though she faced verbal abuse. This is because of her daily practice of meditation and writing a life journal that gave her inner peace which was wonderful for her to live life. She started to expect less and live life more, thus experiencing serenity in her life.
