Uttar PradeshOnion loot: Youth arrested for looting onions in UP’s Prayagraj district

Date:

Prayagraj (UP): The Colonelganj police in Prayarag district of Uttar Pradesh arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly looting around 60 sacks containing onions from two persons who were carrying the items from Jasra Mandi to Pratapgarh on October 30, official sources said on Tuesday. He has been identified as Krishna Kumar alias Sonu.

The man was illegally living in the Holland Hall Hostel of Allahabad University. When the police collared him, the accused said that he was a student of the university. According to senior superintendent of police Shailesh Kumar Pandey, a trader Sandeep Kumar lodged a complaint at the Colonelganj police station and related how the sacks full of onions were looted. In the complaint, he said that he together with his co-worker Priyanshu Kushwaha were on their way to Pratapgarh from Jasra vegetable market in a pick-up van. They were supposed to deliver those sacks containing 34 quintals of onions to some traders in the market.

Just as they were near the university road, three unidentified criminals who were in a car intercepted their van and demanded rupees one lakh from them. When the duo refused to give the money, the criminals forced to sit them in their four-wheeler and took them to the Holland Hall Hostel where they kept them captive for four hours.

After that, the goons took the onion-laden pick-up van to a nearby vegetable market and unloaded the onion-filled sacks from vehicle. The thugs then returned to the hostel and handed over the keys of the van to them. The duo told the police that the goons had also deprived them of Rs 11,500. It was only after they gave the money to the thugs, they released them, the duo said in their complaint.
