Ayodhya (UP): Four constables and a station house officer in Uttar Pradesh had to pay for raiding the house of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker and allegedly threatening to book him under the arms and narcotics acts. The administration suspended all the four constables and sent a station house officer to lines, official sources said on Sunday.

A booth in charge of the BJP from Keshavpur in Anjana village of Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya district, Ramesh Pandey, said that cops from Purakalandar police station had raided his house and ransacked it. They also brought him to the police station at midnight on Diwali eve, Pandey said, adding that he could free himself from the clutches of police men by paying Rs 40,000.

As BJP leaders were busy with the Deepotsav festival in Ayodhya, he failed to contact them, Pandey said, adding that the policemen had threatened to send him to jail under false cases. When he contacted the party leaders after Diwali, the issue came to the knowledge of senior superintendent of police Prashant Verma.
