Lucknow: Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya has decided to file a defamation case against the Noida police commissioner for announcing that Maurya had provided a VIP car pass to self-styled BJP leader Shrikant Tyagi, sources said.
The police arrested Tyagi on Tuesday and demolished his house in Noida for assaulting a woman during a dispute over encroachments. Besides misbehaving with the woman, he was involved in various other crimes.
Maurya who was a former minister in the BJP government had issued the car pass to Tyagi without investigating the case, the police officer alleged. The SP leader said that the police officer had mentioned his name without delving into the details of the case and he would soon file a defamation suit against the official. Being scared of his rising popularity, the BJP is trying to implicate in baseless cases, Maurya alleged. When Tyagi was arrested, he was flaunting a sticker on his car to make it appear that he was an MLA of the ruling party.

Tyagi alleged that it was Maury who had issued him the pass, sources said. The SP leader, however, said that he met Tyagi in 2017 when he had introduced himself as a BJP leader. Maurya, a former minister of the BJP government in the state, quit the party before the assembly election in Uttar Pradesh and joined the SP.
