Bengaluru: The heavy rain that has lashed Karnataka has, so far, claimed 13 lives in the state, official sources said on Friday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rains in the state in the next 48 hours. The rain has destroyed crops on 6, 279 hectares, damaged more than 3,000 houses and wiped out 28 cattle since October 1.

According to IMD reports, the capital of Karnataka, Bengaluru, will receive average to heavy rainfall. The administration has also issued a yellow alert for different areas, including coastal parts of the state, sources said.

Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Yadgir, Ballary, Chamrajanagar, Chikkamangaluru, Bengaluru City, Bengaluru rural, Chitradurga, Davangere, Hasan, Kodagu and Shivamogga districts will experience heavy rainfall on Saturday.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai directed the district collectors to go to the rain-hit areas and begin relief work.

A report from Lucknow, capital of Uttar Pradesh, says that heavy rain has lashed different parts of the state in the past 72 hours. Two minor children were killed in a village in Sitapur district. The incident occurred after a wall collapsed because of the heavy rain. This was the fourth incident of wall collapse due to heavy rain in the past one month in the incident. More than six people have, so far, been killed in those incidents, official sources said, adding that many villages are under water and people are living in camps.
