Lucknow: A woman manager of a nationalised bank and an adviser of a dental college have fallen into the trap of cyber thugs in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, the police said on Monday. A sum of Rs 50,000 was withdrawn from her account between June 1 and 6, said bank manager Snehlata Singh who filed a case at the Hazratganj police station. According to the complaint, she came to know about the illegal withdrawal of money from her account on June 6. For the money withdrawn, she neither got any OTP nor any email. As the customer care service did not take her call, she reported the case to the bank through email, Singh said in her complaint.  In a similar case, a resident of Indiranagar Hanuman Singh has informed the SGPGI police that he has an account in a private bank on the premises of the dental college where he workers as an advisor.

According to him, he received a message on his mobile on June 8 about his pending electricity bill. Later, he received a call that if he did not pay the bill his electricity would be disconnected. The caller further asked him to share the OTP. As soon as he shared his OTP, he got a message that a sum of Rs 48,000 was deducted from his account. The police said that they began to inquire into both the cases and soon book the culprits.
