Lucknow: District magistrate of Kanpur Neha Sharma was shifted on Tuesday and posted as director of local bodies for her failure to check the communal violence that broke out in the city last week, sources said.

Although it was announced in advance that there would be protests over the remark by BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal against the Prophet, Sharma failed to act in time to control the violence, sources said. Besides Sharma, the state government transferred 20 IAS officers including the district magistrates of nine districts.
