Date:

Chandigarh: Actor Sonu Sood said on Monday that what had happened on the campus of a private university in Punjab’s Mohali over “rumours” that some objectionable videos of female students, was “unfortunate.” In a tweet, he appealed to students to behave responsibly. The students of Chandigarh University, located on the Ludhiana-Chandigarh road, protested after there were “rumours” that some objectionable video clips of several girl students were made, the police said.  A resident of Chandigarh, Sood urged the people to stand by “our sisters.”

It is the right time that the people stand by “our sisters” and set an example of responsible society. He wrote: “These are testing times for us, not for the victims. Be responsible.” The management of the university rejected the reports that the video clips of several were made and posted on social media. A woman student who reportedly made the alleged obscene video clip and shared with a friend from Himachal Pradesh was apprehended. The role of the friend is also under scanner, said Vivek Sheel Soni, senior superintendent of police in Mohali.

There were reports that the girl student who has been detained used to sell those video clips that she had clicked and that after those video clips went viral on social media, nearly seven girls committed suicide, which led to protests on the campus. Nevertheless, the university management denied that any such incidents had ever taken place. Meanwhile, an eerie silence prevailed on the university campus on Monday after the protest on Sunday, sources said.
