Gwalior: Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Digvijaya Singh got bail from a court in Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday in connection with a defamation case, sources said. The case was filed against him after he said that the people connected with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) had been getting money from Pakistan. The district and sessions court gave him bail on a personal bond of Rs 50,000. He appeared before the court.
After getting bail, he told reporters that as the RSS was not a registered organisation, it could not be held responsible for anything. According to reports, Singh had allegedly told reporters at Bhind in Madhya Pradesh in 2019 that some people connected with the RSS were receiving money from the Pakistani spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). A lawyer Awdhesh Singh Bhadoria filed the case against Singh. Nevertheless, Singh made the statement citing an alleged espionage racket busted in Madhya Pradesh in 2017.
A court of magistrate dismissed Bhadoria’s petition, so he moved the sessions court that issued a bailable warrant against Singh. Because of covid-19, the petition did not come up for hearing on November 22, sources further said.
