Lucknow: A six-year-old girl had to endure unbearable torture meted out to her by a 35-year-old woman who adopted her. The woman inflicted injuries in the girl’s private parts. The police said that the woman Poonam had been arrested late Wednesday night. The father of the girl, Ajay Kumar, who owns a food cart, informed the police about the incident and took her to a private hospital.

Station house officer (SHO) Thakurganj, Hari Shankar Chandra told reporters that the couple did not have any child of their own and Poonam claimed that Kumar had ‘adopted’ the girl six months ago. But she was not happy about it and would often torture the girl.
