Hardoi: A spurned lover shot himself outside a girl’s house in Khanderia village of Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh under Arwal police station, official sources said on Saturday. A resident of Babatmau village under Mallanwa police station, 21-year-old Deepak went to his girlfriend’s house in Khanderia village and sat on a cot outside her house. Although the girl’s family members objected to it, he did not listen to them and demanded a glass of water, saying he was thirsty. A child brought it to him, but he did not drink that water and went to a nearby tap.

There, he took out his gun and shot himself. Deepak died on the spot, the police said. On getting information, senior police officers rushed to the spot and sent the body for a post-mortem. Locals said that the youth wanted to befriend the girl, but she as well as her family members were against it. Humiliated by the rejection, he committed suicide, they further said. The police, however, said that the matter was being investigated, and everything would come to light only after the probe.
